Phoenix, Arizona, a city renowned for its vibrant culture, stunning landscapes, and luxurious accommodations, offers a perfect getaway for those seeking a unique blend of relaxation and adventure. In this travel itinerary, we’ll dive into the highlights of my recent trip, centered around the lavish JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa.
I went to Phoenix for the NASCAR Cup Series Championship race and decided to make a trip out of it.
3 Day Phoenix Arizona Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival Day + Check JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa
Upon your arrival at Sky Harbor International Airport, after picking up your rental car, make your way to the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa. Check into the luxurious accommodations and take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding desert landscape.
You might be tired from traveling, especially if you are traveling from the east coast, so be sure to check out the great restaurants at the resort.
After we caught up on sleep and adjusted to the time zone, we made our way to Modern Margarita on High Street. You will find much to do on the High Street and plenty of restaurants. Modern Margarita was a great choice. We opted for outdoor seating to watch a few games and enjoyed the weather.

Day 2: Fun in the Sun at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa.
Start your day with a splash at the resort’s expansive water park. AquaRidge WaterPark opened this summer! In addition to its new on-site waterpark, the resort features five swimming pools, a lazy river, two championship golf courses, a full-service spa, restaurants, and so much more! Since we spent all day at the pool and ate a ton in our cabana, we skipped dinner (time zones were getting to us) and went to PopStroke.

PopStroke is a unique entertainment venue in Phoenix, Arizona, designed by Tiger Woods. It combines an 18-hole putting course with gourmet food and beverages, creating a fun and friendly atmosphere for all ages.
The mini-golf course is creatively designed with challenging holes, water features, and beautiful landscaping. The on-site restaurant offers a variety of delicious bites, including burgers, sandwiches, salads, and desserts. (Watch my video here)
PopStroke is a great place to spend an afternoon or evening with family and friends, and it’s located just a short drive from the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort.
Day 3: Race Day
We spent most of the day at Phoenix Raceway for the NASCAR Cup Championship Race. Phoenix Raceway is 33 miles southwest of the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort. The drive time is approximately 40-50 minutes, depending on traffic.
Day 4: A Day of Leisure at the Resort | Arizona Boardwalk | Flight Home
Spend a relaxing day exploring the amenities and activities the JW Marriott Desert Ridge offers. We had a red-eye flight back to Atlanta, so we made the most of our stay. Thanks to Marriott Platinum status, we could check out at 4 pm, so we have an entire day with access to our room until then. (How To Earn Platinum Status with Marriott)
After checking out, we went to the Arizona Boardwalk. The Arizona Boardwalk is a popular entertainment destination located in Scottsdale, Arizona. It features several attractions, including the OdySea Aquarium, Butterfly Wonderland, and so much more.
I was skeptical about booking a red-eye flight back to Atlanta, but it was my best decision. For what seemed like a short trip, the time zone change worked to our advantage, and we did so much in a short amount of time.
Your Phoenix adventure, centered around the JW Marriott Desert Ridge, promises a perfect blend of relaxation, excitement, and culinary delights. From the resort’s water park to the modern flavors at Modern Margarita, each day unfolds a new facet of Phoenix’s charm. So, pack your bags, embrace the desert vibes, and prepare for an unforgettable journey in the Valley of the Sun.
