State Fair of Texas Guide – Everything You Need To Know

Visiting the State Fair of Texas 2025 in Dallas is more than just a mid-October weekend activity; it’s a full sensory experience. It’s fun, indulgent, and full of culinary creativity, and it’s absolutely worth traveling for.

As someone based in Atlanta, I’ll admit: at first, it seemed like a long way to go for “just a fair.” But after attending two years in a row, it’s one of those events you plan your year around. The food options are incredible, unlike anything I’ve seen at other state fairs.

If this is your first time going, here’s your ultimate State Fair of Texas travel guide from when to visit, how to get there, where to stay, and of course, what to eat.

When & Where

  • Location: Fair Park, Dallas, Texas
  • Dates: September 26 – October 19. Each year, it typically occurs in late September to mid-October. (check official site)
  • Getting Around: Expect to do a lot of walking. Wear comfortable shoes!
  • What’s Included: Rides, livestock exhibits, parades, concerts, and more than 200+ food stands. There are so many ticket and season pass options. Along with discount codes online

Traveling From Atlanta

If you’re traveling from Atlanta (like I do):

  • Flights: Direct flights from Atlanta to Dallas are frequent. Book early for the best rates.
  • Airports: Dallas/Fort Worth International (DFW) is 20–30 minutes from Fair Park. Dallas Love Field (DAL) is even closer.
  • Ground Transport: Rideshares and DART rail both connect to Fair Park.

Travel Tip: I recommend arriving the night before so you can start fresh and make the most of your first full day at the Fair.

Why It’s Actually Worth Visiting The State Fair Of Texas

This state fair is larger and bolder than others, earning national recognition as one of the most innovative fairs in terms of food offerings. You will leave with unforgettable experiences, stories, and photos, along with some serious bragging rights!

The Food: Must-Try Eats

My Top Tips For Navigating The State Fair of Texas

  1. Map your food stops ahead of time (the Fair has an online food map).
  2. Eat savory first, save dessert for later.
  3. Hydrate often (Texas heat + fried food = you’ll thank me later).
  4. Go on weekdays or in the mornings to avoid long lines.

Final Thoughts

If you’re considering a trip from Atlanta (or anywhere else), the State Fair of Texas 2025 is worth it. Between the food, the festive energy, and the sheer scale of it all, it’s a fall experience you’ll never forget. Whether you go for a weekend getaway or make it the centerpiece of a longer Dallas trip, one thing’s for sure: you won’t leave hungry.
