September marks National Hispanic Heritage Month and to celebrate, I am sharing with you a classic dish that from the Dominican Republic, Pollo Guisado. Pollo Guisado is Dominican Stewed Chicken.
I accompany this classic dish with a refreshing Sparkling Ice Beverage in the Black Raspberry flavor. The combination of flavors makes this one of my go-to meals in my household.
WHAT MAKES DOMINICAN STEWED CHICKEN DIFFERENT FROM OTHER STEW CHICKEN?
Azucar! (Sugar) Yes! We use sugar when we cook our chicken. The sugar will caramelize in the oil. I remember growing up and enjoying this dish because of how sweet and savory it was. The secret to making Pollo Guisado is to let the chicken marinate for at least 6 hours for optimal flavor. However, the longer you marinate, the better!
WHAT TO PAIR POLLO GUISADO / DOMINICAN STEW CHICKEN WITH WITH?
The sides that go with Pollo Guisado are endless. I prefer white rice, extra veggies that were cooked with the chicken, and sweet plantains also known as platanos maduro. For my beverage, I love Sparkling Ice beverages.
Sparkling Ice beverages are made with zero sugar. Sparkling Ice is a combination of real fruit flavor, antioxidants, and sparkling water. I prefer to pair this dish with Black Raspberry flavor however, Sparkling Ice has a variety of flavors to chose from. I always find them on sale at my local Kroger.
